Direct link between roon and DAC

Hi, can I directly connect a dac to a computer with roon core loaded and it will be recognized. Is this a better option instead of volumio s roon bridje to dac in terms of audio quality?

You can certainly connect a DAC via USB to a computer running Roon. Would it be better quality? That is up for you to decide by listening.

I personally don’t have a DAC connected directly to a computer in my main listening area. My server stays out of the listening room and I have an endpoint that takes an ethernet in and provides a USB out.

Hello, as a roon endpoint I use volumio primo with roon bridje plugin. If I replace the volumio primo with a roon ready device will it improve the sound. Would you recommend a roon ready device?

Sure can, I’ve just got some £7 USB-phono dacs off Amazon so I can have 4 zones coming off one NUC, for bathroom, ceiling speakers, digital volume control works too.

But for best sound quality it is suggested you separate them, USB can be noisy and most go for ethernet to streamer/dac

At the moment Wiim make the cheapest Roon Ready (RAAT) streamers I you went down the ethernet route.

Improve the sound, probably not, unless the DAC you are currently using is pretty bad, and you replace it with a Roon Ready endpoint with a better one. And all-in-one Roon Ready endpoint might be better controllable from Roon and generally an easier to use single box solution though.

With the WiiM Pro Plus which has roon ready, by playing from tidal mqa on the pc will my dac read the mqa file. Does the device appear as a bridge without changing the file from the computer?

Tidal is in the process of removing MQA anyway, I wouldn’t base any decisions on that.

Roon supports whatever MQA the DAC supports. I believe the Wiim can do the first unfold, but better to check the Wiim forum
