Display issue on Raspi 5 Ropieee

Here is the issue I have with a newly build and installed Ropieee on Raspi 5 ( [2024.10]) . The access point is recognized, sound is OK, the display is functionning (I have clear text on boot). The zone is properly entered and triple checked (no display at all if the zone is wrong).

What could be wrong ?

It looks like your cable is not seated correctly. I would pull the cable and reconnect. If that fails I would try a new cable.

Sorry, I missed the part where you have clear text on boot. That is odd. I would still try the cable, but after that Iā€™m stuck. Is that the standard 7" display?

Yes it is the standard display. The boot text display is 100% OK.
I booted the first time Ropiee without display, and I added the display later. Maybe Ropieee must be booted with the display the first time. Iā€™ll try with a new SD card.

Try a reconfigure (change a setting and then change it back to force a configure)

I already did that, notably changing zone name. Very weird issue. Thanks for your help !

I would download RoPieee again and burn to a new micro SD card and reinstall. You never know if something got corrupted somewhere.

Pretty sure you have to install with the display connected. It wonā€™t initialize properly unless itā€™s connected on first startup. Try a new burn to SD card and startup with the display connected.

I just did it, no more luck. Exactly the same display. @spockfish Feedback id : f97ebd10f38c796f Can you please have a look ? Thanks a lot in advance !

The logs look fineā€¦ so this is weird.

A few options:

  • connection. The flatcable and 2 other pins are rather sensitive: are you sure that everything is properly connected/mounted?
  • some kernel issue. You could try to switch to the beta channel where a beta build is sitting with a newer kernel. Maybe that would ā€˜automagicallyā€™ fix your issue.

Thanks

Switched to beta. No immediate update notificationā€¦ Iā€™ll wait for a day or two

I had the notification, and upgraded to BETA. => same display

For testing the screen mounting, I flashed a Raspbian SD card and booted it : no issue (see screenshot)

If this can give an hint, it seems that only blue things are displayed on screen. When I had the update notification, is displayed as a light blue rectangle.

Before Ropieee display, all is OK, with green ā€œOKā€ on the text boot list for example, I have other colors and text is white (so RGB is working).

Very weirdā€¦

Thatā€™s something we can agree on
Iā€™m running a Pi 5 as my main display driver with the latest betaā€¦

To be clear: how started this? So: did it at some point worked (with RoPieee)?

I have this display straight away, never worked with Raspi 5. The boot sequence is normal, and as soon as the Ropieee display kicks in, I have this display.

The first time, I booted Ropieee without display (to check Raspi 5 OK) and then with display. I started over with a fresh Ropieee install, with display at first boot, and exactly the same issue. Finally I updated to beta, with straight away the same display. A blue square with a blue line (wich is working and shows correctly the position in track).

I will remount the display anyway. There is 2 display connectors on Raspi, Iā€™ll try the other.

For information, and possible hint, appareance with an update notification.

I tried with the other Raspi5 display connector, but no display at all. I suppose Ropieee detects the connector at first boot, and changing connector needs a fresh SD card. Anyways, I have disconnected and reconnected display cable and secured it, with same results.

You should be able to swap out the connector any time. I know I have. Changing connector shouldnā€™t need a reflash. If your new connector didnā€™t work, thereā€™s something else going on.

Are you sure this is an official Raspberry Pi screen?

I bought it second hand, but it fits perfectly in the box, and screw mounting is perfect. The card behind the screen is 100% similar to official one.

I have my previous Ropieee system, Raspi 4 based, and his own screen (Display OK). Iā€™ll swap the screens to be sure.
