I’m asking because I do, and my friends call me stupid for it.
Well that makes me stupid too I guess
At least you are not alone.
I have already bought 5 CDs and multiple digital albums so far in 2026
Yes. You will look super smart when albums your friends like disappear from streaming, or if artists they like give up because they don’t earn any money from streaming.
And with Roon, having local files is the only way to retain metadata edits when the streaming albums inevitably get replaced by different versions.
Me too. As much as possible on Bandcamp.
Yes! (10chars)
Yes, but I also find that my local version sounds better and I will always have it.

Yes, I usually buy the physical copy and rip it or download it.
This (and not trying to look smart) is exactly what got me started collecting again, a large collection of regular listened albums on Tidal and Qobuz just disappeared completely. I am still 75% digital purchases but it’s nice to pop a cd into one of the players or even play a vinyl.
Since I can’t go to every concert I can, I buy a lot of Blu-rays. I rip them for Roon.
Ditto
I still buy CDs or SACDs, but for a different reason.
There are still a lot of albums which are not available for streaming or download, but on physical medium.
In addition, looking for albums as buy to download these are by far not always cheaper than on CD, in same audio quality (16/44.1).
yes, I buy what I like and to make sure I have it even if I cancel streaming services.
Indeed, another good reason. (And some just available as purchased download but not streaming)
If you mean physical copies, I buy them only if I don’t find them for download. End goal is the same, as I always rip physical media. It’s not stupid.
I buy CDs from essential artists (essential to me that is) and music that isn’t on streaming that I like. I find a lot of new and independent artists with huge talent can’t or won’t get on streaming so I’ll buy the download or CD from Bandcamp or even direct from the artist or label. Having said that, I almost never listen to something I’ve heard before. Everything I play is new to me. If I bought every CD on the chance it might be interesting and then listen to it only once that would break me. Can’t afford it. So my library is about one third physical and two thirds streaming.
Why pay monthly when you can own it instead? That being said, I love being able to super-mix (and, yes, Roon radio!) across the high-quality digitized version of my physical library. I store the original media, alphabetically organized, in DiscSox sleeves. But… don’t just take my word for it. ![]()
P.S. The editing of the “original” version of the music to a sanitized/modernized/bastardized streaming/digital version is . . . not cool.
I much prefer to buy physical media when possible. ![]()

I like using a streaming service for discovery, but if I had to choose between my local collection and a streaming service, I’d choose my local collection over a streaming service every time! ![]()

I’ve been buying roughly an album per week ever since my paper round and streaming music hasn’t changed that. I tend to listen to streaming for convenience and discovery and if I find a leaning to something new, I seek it out and buy it either on vinyl or digital download via Bandcamp. I do it for the physical experience, the artwork and as a means to support the artist and labels.
Yes. CDs , Blu-ray’s , LPs , occasionally things like books and also I purchase digital downloads.
I try to own as much as possible of the stuff that I really like.
Count me as stupid as well! I will often buy CDs or vinyl, especially when I go to shows, to support the artists. I will also usually buy the digital copy as well. I just like having the music under my control. ![]()
