Does Roon download entire track into RAM? [Memory Playback Discussion]

Dude, even without having to find the post by the CTO, it’s spelled out on the RAAT help page (already posted a few posts before yours as well):

Read it and understand it before having opinions

I’ll try one more time. I can’t know that unless you describe your testing methodology. I suspect it wasn’t a controlled test because the results are unexpected/unexplained. Before we start to look for an unlikely explanation, which is likely to be difficult and time-consuming, let’s check that there isn’t a more mundane reason for the perceived result.

Hi @Eduardo_Cabral,

I noticed your comment …

To clarify he is not nameless, Roon’s CTO is Brian Luczkiewicz, as can been seen here …

@Brian is one of the founders of Roon Labs (2015) and before that worked with the other founders of Roon at Meridian (2008) and Sooloos (2006) … he is the authority on Roon’s Streaming Architecture and its implementation.

I’m not going to get into the AQ debate, and Roon themselves do not comment either.
It’s down to each user to follow their own path.

In the more distant past, I detected no audible differences between alac in a M4a container, flac and wav rips to a Mission Discmaster CD-transport into the same chain of Elektor Audio upsampling DAC 2000 with a Threshold NS10 pre, Pass Labs Aleph0’s amp and Magnepan Tympani4A speakers in a dedicated and treated listening room of w5m x l6m x h3.6m.

Disclosure - no ABX testing regime had been implemented, so that makes for another anecdotal evidence…

I have several albums that where purchased and only available in WAV. I converted them to Flac using dbPoweramp. I can’t hear any difference between them via Roon on any of my zones. Another subjective opinion.

thank you…

that I can live with, and I thank you…

ok… thank you

I just wanted to add that I’m using a Raspberry Pi 5 4GB RAM and a HiFiBerry Digi2 Pro HAT with Audolinux running a Roon Bridge and with Piero’s help I managed to get it running in Ramroot. Wow! Yes a massive SQ improvement! Detail, imaging is improving. It just sounds cleaner and flows from the speakers with less effort. Cliche I know but it’s as if a veil has been lifted off.

Ah, but HOW black the jpg is matters as well.
One must use the blackest jpg possible, ie None Blacker!
