Since a few days I experience dropouts when using a HDMI-connection running from my NUC to the HDMI-input on my receiver. The connection was working without these dropouts for years.
streaming to a Roon ready device over the network (in stead of over HDMI) no dropouts
swapped the HDMI cable, still dropouts
changed the HDMI input port on the receiver: still dropouts
Hi Mike, the receiver didn’t get any updates for years. It is a Denon AVR4520.
Also connected (and at least on stand by)is a Sony XR-77A95L tv. Actually I gave that an update yesterday, but the problem was there before that.
I am not sure since when the dropout problem is there, recently I have mostly been listening over the intranet to Roon Ready endpoints. At least it has been there for a few days. Hence: it may have been since an earlier update if that is what you are trying to say. Will disconnect it and try
I had dropouts and stuttering with the HDMI connection from NUC/ROCK to my Denon 8500H 5 years ago and, long story short, the cause turned out to be my TV trying to pull power from HDMI to receiver to power a USB powered LED light strip on the back of the TV. I removed the light strip from the TV and the problem disappeared. Just FYI on weird things that can cause problems.
I know that information sounds strange, it was hard for me to understand what was going on. My issue with dropouts over HDMI had been going on for a few weeks, off and on, and Roon support was looking into it. Then one night I was listening to music in the dark, everything not sound related, including the TV, was turned off and the music was playing as it should. The USB powered light strip behind the TV lit up all of a sudden in the dark space with the TV turned off and the stuttering and dropouts started immediately. When I disconnected the USB cable from the TV the stuttering stopped and the music started playing normally. No issues with the HDMI connection since then.
