Generally speaking, I’m happy with both Roon Server and Roon Arc and I have a lifetime license. However, there are certainly issues with both and an aging list of “wants” from various people but Roon seems to have a small development and support team. It confuses me then that they would seem to allocate some of that team developing a new mobile app, “Drops Music” which seems to just clip and “Tik-Tok-ify” music in a (social?) platform.
I certainly can’t explain the app as she’s not public yet. Going by the description, I seems to be some sort of music sharing app. Sharing music (listens) with others is IIRC something that got requested by users.
If this app is what people had in mind or is going to fulfill any current wishes – I guess only time can tell. When the app becomes available we can see and decide for ourself if the app is worth it – but the opinion of single users may not necessarily reflect a majority of all users.
Team Roon Labs will probably not reply to the thread until they have something to share about this app publicly.
I think the Drops app is a great idea and I’m quite interested because I do this type of sharing already. But the app is unusable right now. Tried to create an account and just got multiple errors with “link already used” and “couldn’t verify your email at this time”. Wasted my time. Alert me when stable version 3.0 is released.
Does anybody actually test their crappy software anymore?
In their defense, this is invite-only right now so I’m guessing that’s why you got the error message and couldn’t get it to work.
Good to know that you’d actually like the usage of this. I typically share full songs through streaming links but I guess there’s some value for people to just share the “drop”.
