DSD on OPPO BDP-105EU possible or not?

Hello Harry @spockfish,

I try to play DSD via RoPieee on my OPPO BDP-105EU without success. Actually I do not even know if this is possible.

I tried the 3 combinations, nothing works except PCM conversion.

Just in case, some informations :

In advance, thank you for your answer, dp.

Your DAC is not advertising it supports DSD, so this isn’t going to work. First your DAC should get new firmware (if possible) that advertises DSD support.

Thanks Harry for your quick reply. Obviously the firmware does not meet the specifications :

https://www.oppodigital.com/support/blu-ray-bdp-105/

USB Audio Input : up to 2ch/192kHz PCM, 2ch DSD 2.8224MHz/5.6448MHz

Well… it supports DoP. So thats DSD. So are you saying you’re not capable of doing DoP?

Exact. No error but no sound

But there is something strange :

On the OPPO screen :

I’m not sure how the European Oppos are configured. In the US, only the 105D (with Darbee video processing) supports DSD over USB (via DoP); the older 105 didn’t (although it would play DSD via DLNA). I’ve owned both (currently on the 105D)… The 205 just missed what I wanted (e.g., multichannel DSD over USB), and it’s Roon-ready minus DSD, so I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, and may not.

BTW, the DoP standard is designed so that if you play DoP encoded DSD on a non-DoP DAC, you’ll get very quiet noise, which possibly may somewhat resemble the DSD signal. So if you turn up the volume (carefully!) you should here something, but not what you want. DSD64, when DoP encoded, becomes 176.4/24, so this matches what you’re seeing.

Good luck!

Drew

Hello Drew @ddean ,

Thank you for your message.

I think I’m in that case. My 105 is from the first generation before the 105D (November 2013).

That said, I will check the version and history of my firmware.

My firmware is the last one : Firmware BDP10xEU-83-1226, I have contacted OPPO to find out if it is possible to do this. dp
