Dsd Sound signature

Hi

So I used Roon to upsample tidal to dsd for the first time. Is dsd supposed to sound warmer, more richer but less transparent and less lively than pcm? To me it sounds different rather then better.

Used both ifi Nano dsd black label and Fiio q1 mk2 both sounded richer and warmer in dsd I just don’t know if that is normal for dsd

Better is always subjective.

Converting PCM to DSD will reduce the ‘harshness’ of 16/44.1k PCM to certain extend due to lack of steep over-sampling digital filter in DSD.

However if the recording is mastered in DSD and playback in DSD unaltered, then you can get the true ‘analogue’ DSD sound signatures.
