Did anyone compare the DSD512 upsampling with the DSD256 using CLANS5?
Although I have to use the multicore option on my Minix Z300 (Single Core performance = 0.9) I notice a hearable improvement in some songs - especially in the song “Run” from Josh Franklin streamed from Tidal.
My question goes of course only to people having a DAC that does not convert DSD back to PCM.
It’s not a rhetorical question. People often think music plays better with a better wire,… I think a lot is just imagined.
I have not but I don’t use Roon for converting to DSD however my comment may still be relevant.
Looking over testing graphs of DSD256 and DSD512 some DACs certainly do measure better with one rate over the other and its not always DSD512. In this case, higher numbers don’t always translate to better. However, in saying all that, I do happen to prefer DSD512 over DSD256 on my DAC although, technically, DSD256 is the better measuring rate.
All this written to say… everyone should try and use what brings you most joy. Use the testing as a reference but don’t live by it. Also, not everyone is going to hear the same thing as just moving from 256 to 512 is a variable masked by almost everything else.
