DSP does DSD but only DSD64?

Hello … I have searched the site but can’t figure out why my DSP connected to a
Mac Mini Core
Hegel Roon Ready firmware and working great via Ethernet
DSC Loop to a Denafrips enabled

I can select DSD but grayed out at DSD64
this cant be a limitation of my system ?
perhaps someone has resolved this or this is it … in that case … with lots of 192khz library … should I stick with PCM ?

thanks again in advance !
Matt

Do you select at DSP sample rate conversion to DSD and only 64 is selectable?
I do not know about the device limits, check the manual
but did you check the settings from Device setup? Probable yes

So odd… I used to have that but now it maxed out at 192 ?
I took it out of DAC loop and same …

What is you put denafrips USB connect to core?

I use ethernet only … no USB A-B …
I used to have USB but now Ethernet to Core

Can you detail your audio chain that is having the issue.

Keep in mind that MacOS does not output DSD only DoP, so that is why you are probably not seeing any DSD option.

And you used to have other settings using ethernet? Odd
With ethernet all your settings are of the bridge device. It does not matter if you have a 512 capable dac, if your bridge device can do only 64 than you will see no other options

I do not know the specs of Hegel (as I understand that it what you use as Roon Bridge)

This is a hardware limitation. Via ethernet, your Hegel is restricted to 192 pcm and 64 dsd.

Thank you… !
Now to see if PCM or DSD64 … which is better ?

I appreciate everyone’s input… thank you

Depends on the dac. Get one known track, listen several times in PCM, grab a coffee with someone, come back and listen in DSD. Repeat until your choice is clear. It worked for me.
I use HQP from roon and with my Zen Stream/Dac I’m with DSD but with CA 200M I am using PCM.

Or spend countless hours on reading forums. Also works for me

Yes … Exactly what Ill do… I have an Aries II and looking to go to a Holo May DAC…
I just sold my AudioQuest Diamond USB cable as I was not aware of the Ethernet limitations…but then again… most of my Local music is 192Khz… so I dont think going 100% Ethernet and DAC Loop on the Hegel H390 will bother me… But i will certaily do the Cafe test … I just ordered a complete new OCC Silver set of cables and interconnects … including Ethernet… arriving this week… so that will bring it to a new level I presume…

I’m also looking this year for a Holo, but I think I’ll connect that directly using usb as to not be limited by the streamer as I do not think I’ll get a holo and a new streamer in the same time

If you are after a good ladder dac try the gustard r26. I have listened to an A B for both the Holo May level 3 and the r26 and the difference was barely noticeable and not worth three times the cost. The r26 also connects by Ethernet as well as USB.

thanks Dave … good to know .

Thanks, I was looking at r26. But I do not know if has NAA, I did not notice that. USB it is just fine.

This gentleman was quite enamoured by the A26 (and R26)

The r26 supports roon raat. I connected the r26 to my router using 1gb ethernet and it could be accessed directly by roon with support for dsd512 and pcm.
