I bought my Dualit toaster in Auckland in 2000, it was the equivalent of £165 back then
my GF and her mum thought I was insane!
just used it this morning for my toast - it’ll outlast me, I’m sure

Similar experience here … my 4 way wide slot Dualit toaster dates back to 1996, so that’s 20 30 years of great service.
Only issue, the clockwork timer spring lost some of its springiness, spare part order and self fitted.

I sent @MusicD a message to say the same, and I think I have had my Dualit toaster around 15-20 years and also still going strong.

Has anyone tried USB (Under Side Buttered) toasters?
My friend tried that, but he said it was too refined
I make my own hair-shirt bread, so dirty, dirty mains is required for a hearty breakfast
I do appreciate the intrinsic Faraday cage of the entirely metal construction though (knobs aside, lads)

Excellent year for kitchen gadgetry, I bought my first Global knife then (when they were still fairly rare) in some boutique shop in Norfolk, probably Holt. I’d seen it in T3 magazine (I think)

Correct, only between kitchen and utility (depending on where other “stuff” ends up.
It gets wiped down when the crumb tray is empty and the very occasional Duraglit polish when I can be bothered
Dang, now I have to get mine sandblasted so it looks cool.
Sadly, I gave up on my Dualit. Had it for several years and then heating elements kept failing.
I’ve not checked, but Dualit used to sell replacement parts. The toasters are meant to be fully serviceable.

My first encounter with Dualit toasters was around 1983 at boarding school. Six-slot. Got a tremendous amount of use. Periodically sent back to the school’s maintenance dept when some toast got stuck and it went up with smoke. Always came back a day later and on we went.
When I moved house in 2020, I tried to pick a good cheap toaster on Amazon. Chassis was skewed and it wouldn’t sit flat on the kitchen worktop. Burnt the first toast on a light setting. I came to the conclusion that the Chinese who made it simply have never seen toast before! Seriously, it’s not a thing out there.
Cut my losses, returned it, and got a 2x wide slot Dualit. Came with an adjustable foot for leveling. Haven’t looked back. Buy once…
