I was unable to find any explanation of this function in the usual places. Does anyone know what this option does?
Thanks!

This option provides a way for HAT’s (that support it) to disable output when there is not audio signal.
Thanks Harry!
@spockfish if there is no HAT, and I just have a DAC connected by USB, what does this option do?
What scenarios is it a bad idea to have it on?
Thanks!
DAPM is a ‘HAT only’ thingie: it makes it possible (if the chipset used on the HAT supports it/is supported) to power down the output (and the chipset) if there’s no signal.
Many thanks!
Now i have to figure out if my Pi2AES supports it!
John
Did you find out?
old thread i know, but just was going through the RoPieee tabs after an update and noticed this setting…
I have a Pi2AES HAT, and it has its own power supply.
Hunted around but not seeing a definitive answer:
Does Pi2AES support DAPM?
Should I turn it on in my RoPieee settings?
What difference does it make? (Just lets it rest as opposed to being on all the time? Does it matter?)
DAPM makes it possible for devices like HATs that have a SoC (system-on-a-chip) on board to power down based on the audio stream.
This means that, for example on a HAT with an optical interface, the signal on the interface can be turned down, which in turn can steer your amplifier.
Now, this is all optional: certainly not all HAT’s support it, but it can’t harm to test it.
thanks… when you say optical interface, you mean toslink? Guess i’m not sure what it means to “steer your amplifier”…
Yes, indeed.
