Dynamic EQ in Roon DSP for Hearing Accommodation and Tinnitus Management

Hi Roon Team and Community,

I would love to request the addition of a Dynamic EQ (Dynamic Equalizer) to Roon’s DSP engine.

While Roon already has an amazing parametric EQ, a static EQ cannot solve all hearing-related acoustic challenges. In my case, I suffer from tinnitus, which causes severe distortion in the 3 kHz to 4 kHz frequency range, but only when the music gets loud.

A static EQ cuts these frequencies at all times, which ruins the detail and clarity when listening to music at lower, safer volumes.

Ideally, a Dynamic EQ in Roon would allow us to:

  • Set a Threshold: Only compress or attenuate specific frequencies when they exceed a certain volume level.

  • Level-Dependent Correction: Keep the 3–4 kHz range clear and present during quiet listening sessions, but automatically duck/compress that exact frequency band as soon as the music gets louder to prevent ear strain and distortion.

This feature would be an incredible quality-of-life upgrade for music lovers with tinnitus, hyperacusis, or age-related hearing loss. It would allow for a highly personalized, dynamic hearing accommodation that protects our ears without sacrificing sound quality at low volumes.
