Eagles Hotel California

I just received my SACD of Hotel California today. Wow!! Sounds much better to my ears that the 192K 24 bit version on Tidal through my system which consists of a Marantz SACD 30N (Roon Ready) and a Marantz Model 30 integrated and IMF transmission line speakers. Better balance and less shrill. Much tighter bass. It must be remastered for DSD I would guess. Give it a try for those with SACD players

Are you talking about the 2011 SACD release?

The MFSL SACD is pretty good but the punch and bass of the DCC is still my favorite.

The one I have appears to be Japanese.

Whether you like SACD/DSD as a format or not, there’s little doubt that a lot of care has gone into the mastering of many of those Japanese SACD releases.

DSD has little or nothing to do with it. Rather, it is just some remastering engineer’s personal reinterpretation/revision via EQ, dynamic compression, etc. And the Japan 2011 WPCR SACD stereo track is dynamically compressed compared to the 96/192 kHz PCM download/stream and most CD releases prior to 1999.

I’m learning a lot from you guys on all of this! Thanks for your opinions and insight. I see there are multiple options out there on some of these classic albums. I may have to purchase the MFSL Hotel California just to compare. I don’t currently have any of their SACDs. I just received today two SACDs from Acoustic Sounds. Saint/Saens Organ Symphony and Rimsky Korsakoff Scheherazade. They both sound great. A big improvement over the original SACDs issued years back in my collection. I just don’t get this whole remastering deal. It seems like the mastering can negate all the original producers idea of the proper sound or improve it tremendously. It’s almost like you have to buy the “mastering engineer” of your liking!

The Steve Hoffman forum is wealth of information on different releases/masters. Allot of subjective opinion but you can browse it and decide what you would like to acquire.

Thanks, just joined
