Hey Everyone,
Introducing Smart Playlists in Roon and ARC
We’re excited to announce the arrival of Smart Playlists (SPLs) in Early Access! This was one of your top playlist feature requests for many years and we are happy to welcome it to the product.
Now available in Roon and ARC, SPLs will help you unearth new slices of your music library and aid you as a powerful organizational tool in your day-to-day.
How They Work
Smart Playlists leverage the existing power of focus to create dynamically updating playlists of tracks or albums. You can create them directly from the sidebar or the playlist info page. Just click the plus sign and select “new smart playlist” then select whether you’d like to start from tracks or albums. Create your smart playlist from any existing focus criteria. Perhaps you want a playlist of “my most played Jazz albums” or “2010s indie rock on my hard drive”. We’re excited to see where you may take them!
Testing Guidelines
Smart Playlists are very powerful and flexible, so we’re eager to see how you use them. As you test, let us know how you are using them. What criteria have you made? How do you use them to hone your collection? How have they helped you see your collection differently? How could we improve them?
An important note: Smart Playlists are powerful, but with great power comes great responsibility. As they scale, they can become resource-intensive. Our testing indicates that most users should be fine, however for users who create a large number of SPLs—especially with a substantial music library—they may see performance affected. As Early Access testers, this is where your feedback will be crucial. Please push this feature to its limits and let us know if it starts affecting your experience. Be sure to report your basic system specs and how many SPLs you have made.
