I have a qustion regarding adjusting headroom when using dsp.
Is roon using all eq settings as one in total (like a convolution filter) or one by one?
is the eq in front of the volume fader or after?
Why do i ask the question: its good to know for adjusting the headroom in roon, in case of using positve gain eq.
If all calculations are pre volume fader, and roon would first calculate a min phase FIR filter out of all eq’s it would be easy to take the headroom adjustment out of the white total eq curve.
if not i need to look for the highest eq gain and use this for the headroom setting.
I know, i could use the clipping indicator, but then, i need to have a 0db noise signal, to make almost sure, that there is no clipping.
Maybe a picture makes it more clear
Can i use in general the highest peak in the white line for the headroom setting?
Look at your signal path it will show you where it comes.
The highest peak is good starting point to set headroom, but due to intersample clipping you may need to adjust lower and for music thats already compressed a lot and peaks at 0db.
You can also reduce the overall waveform down so the peaks are at or below 0db, Thats what the slider on the right does. Its often better to have reductions rather than gains.
It doesn‘t matter if you use the headroom setting or the slider to the right of the EQ curve, as it‘s the same math that gets applied.
Would be the easiest to use the slider and pull down until the white result curve maxes out at 0dB.
… occurs on upsampling, but not when just multiplying to change volume, afaik.

Noise has a high crest factor, so it will either clip without any DSP or it would have a low RMS level. You could use a sine log sweep, but it will just confirm the shape of your curve.
It can also occur on down-sampling, even if the rate ratio is an integer.
If it doesn’t clip then yes. Remember to turn Roons headroom management to 0db and leave it active if your lowering it manually, but leave clipping indicator active to show if if is.
