Hey guys,
I recently bought a Fiio Q7 DAC which I want to use with my iPhone. There was a USB-C to Lightning cable coming with the device but it‘s too short (10cm). I wanted to have a longer cable and bought a couple (1-2.5m in length) to test. However, none of them were working. Fiio support wasn’t helpful, only suggesting to look out for Apple approved cables.
Does anyone have an idea what could have gone wrong or what I‘m missing?
Thanks!
Hm I dunno then. Complain to Mazer? Or try one from Apple, the Mazer does not seem cheaper as far as I can find online
In my experience, the non-Apple cables are unreliable, and the best option is to use the Apple Camera Adapter (or possibly the Lightning to USB Flash Adapter) with a long USB cable.
Thanks, I will try the official Apple cable next.
…and that didn’t work either. Is there a potential issue with the length of such a cable? Mine is 2m long
I’m no expert in this area but the FiiO included cable is specified as supporting OTG and I don’t think the Apple USB-C to Lightning cables are full OTG.
If you search Amazon for “USB-C to Lightning OTG” (at least in the US), you’ll see a selection of cables that specify OTG and also reference DACs. I don’t see any that meet your length requirements, though.
If I’m right about this, what I’m saying is just another version of what @mjw already said. Your best approach might be to buy an Apple-branded Lightning to USB3 camera adapter dongle and then use a USB-C to USB-C cable that supports OTG. I think most decent cables do, but I’m not sure.
If you go this route, make sure you have the latest iOS update installed - there was an issue with a fairly recent iOS release that caused issues for this adapter. That issue was fixed in subsequent releases.
The USB-C extension cable did the trick - as you expected
