Fiio M11Plus ESS and M11S with Roon Ready is fanatasic!

You are most welcome. Please let us know how you like the cable. I hope that you took advantage of the many custom options available (usually for no additional cost) for the cable. Of course now that I have almost every conceivable cable configuration available for any headphone ever made (only kidding, but just by a bit) I finally realized that I could get custom colors for various parts of the cables from Fog City Audio. Oh well, live and learn. :headphones:

Yes when i read the site I realised you could mix and match, but ultimately decided on just the one color (Surf). Pic from Fog City Audio of the cable attached before packing and shipping.
He inquired where I got his details from and I let him know that you recommended here on the forum for the Beyer’s. So I’ll assume he may know you well already. Will let you know how they go in due course…

The T5 arrived today. Purchased “new” from a Prime seller on Amazon. Arrived with a broken seal on the box and has clearly been used and repackaged - that’s clear from damage on the inside of the box, the cable being sloppily re-packaged, and evidence of minor wear on the headphones. This pair is going back on principle.

That said, I’m trying them out and my early impression is very positive. I’m only about a half hour into auditioning them but they’re holding up well across everything I’m throwing at them - jazz, vocals, pop. Currently doing a lovely job with London Grammar’s Strong.

I’m with you, @Jazzfan_NJ and @Martin_Kelly on the pairing. These are the kind of headphones you can throw in a bag and take with you. They’re comfortable, sound great, don’t leak much, and are easily driven by the M11 Pro. I much, much prefer these to the Aeon 2 with this source device.

The cable has awful microphonics and I want to hear them with a balanced cable anyhow. So I’ll buy something different. I think I’ll take your recommendation and go with Fog City. I’ve been buying from LQI but Fog City is less than half the price.

Other minor grips : I wish they came with a soft case for travel (easily remedied) and they look a little too much like Bose headphones.

I think they’re keepers but I paid for new and got open box so think this specific pair will go back. Thanks for the pointers!

First sorry to hear that you received a repackaged, rather than, new pair. I’m sure that will be remedied. Second, I’m glad that you are liking them thus far.

The balanced cable from Fog City Audio is NOT microphonic and can be customized at no extra charge. So for example, I have a balanced cable, 5 foot long, “Deadpool” pattern on the main cable, black for the left earcup cable, red for the right earcup cable, 4.4mm balanced jack and Beyerdynamic 3.5mm jacks. See picture below. Fog City Audio has lots of colors and patterns available.
Finally, remember that the balanced output provides more power than the single ended output, giving the T5 all the power they could possibly need and the ability to play them very loud. Party on Garth!

Nice looking cable. I ordered from them earlier today/ I have cables from a few custom cable makers - I actually really like the LQI braided cables so I’m interested in how Fog City stacks up.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had an Amazon seller ship an open box item as new. The last time was Amazon itself sending out a re-packaged set of KEF LS50 II. I already owned a pair and I could tell these had been repackaged because they were missing a shipping part that inserts into the speaker to prevent damage in transit. Hooked them up and one of them had a very distinct buzzing issue.

It’s easy to rectify this stuff - worst case is return it and buy somewhere else.

With the relatively short lengths of headphone cables, for me it’s all about quality of the materials and the construction. Well made out of good quality cable is all I ask.

On the subject of headphone cables, check out these cables from Spirit Torino All their headphones and cables are stunning and, dare I say, rather expensive. I’ve heard their headphones at CanJams and they sound fantastic.

Thanks @Simon_Arnold3 for you suggestion. You are right. It sound better without crossfeed.

Have a nice WE

My RME looks sad not used it since I got the M11 over two months ago. It’s a great DAC but the M11 is just better experience over all and of course moveable. Not sure what I should do with him. He feeds some QAcoustics powered speakers but does seem such a waste now I don’t use it for cans.

Being able to move around the house with good headphones and a good source is the best. Once I discovered it, I never listen to my Susvara because I don’t have a portable source that’s powerful enough.

Are you using that Tranquil as a music server?

Yes its my Roon core and has been for about 4-5 years now. Runs ROCK perfectly.

A quick question to all my fellow Fiio M11 users.

Are you making use of the Fiio M11 as a stand alone music player. In other words, do you have music loaded onto the M11, either in the base memory or on a microSD card, that you can listen to when the M11 does not have a WiFi connection?

When I bought the M11, I also bought a 1TB microSD card and I’ve been slowly filling it up with FLAC files from my Roon library. I’ve copied just under 300GB onto the microSD card (meaning I have around 700GB free) and there are around 7,000 tracks in the Fiio Music Library.

I’m planning on using the Fiio M11 Plus on an upcoming trip with a very long plane flight and really looking forward to have so much CD quality and high resolution music available to listen to during my trip.

The Fiio M11 Plus can function in so many ways that it just continues to amaze.

I most definitely do.

I set up a sync app to do one-way sync from my Synology NAS to the Music folder on my SD card. My entire FLAC library of 7,000+ tracks syncs.

I use Wavelet to adjust channel balance to help with hearing differences between my left and right ears.

I use UAPP player as my primary player. The FiiO player is fine, too.

I throw the M11 Plus and my IEMs into my backpack on days that I head into work. I have to admit that I’m still on the fence about the TP5 but I may switch to carrying those around.

The M11 Plus works very, very well for me in disconnected scenarios.

Yes I used it exclusively this way when I was away late last month. Have an SD card but I didn’t buy a big enough one as I am running out of space with the amount of music I have acquired over the last few months.

Pretty much follow exactly what @gTunes does except I have a qnap Nas. My Roon library syncs each night to my Nas as a backup and I then sync from this to my M11 using QNAPs software and use USB Audio Pro and wavelet for DSP. Sounds superb. UI is not great but I get lossless for all files and it works without the internet and my whole collection is available unlike ARC.

@Jazzfan_NJ New Cable came yesterday from Fog City Audio. Six days from order and make to delivery from US to Oz. Impressive!

Nice to have a nice long cable in the bedroom setup where i don’t need to use extenders (added connections) to the Hifiman Arya’s. Just using a cable tie when up close to keep the extra length out of feet and (h) arm’s way.

Also listening to this from @Alan_Barnard which i purchased on Bandcamp this morning.

Giving IEMs another try since I found these brand new TOTL Westone Mach 80 for a very good price. The Mach 80s came with lots of extra tips - some silicone and some foam. After a bit of experimenting I found the tips that provide the best balance of fit, comfort and sound quality. Finding the right tip is very important and makes a huge impact on one’s overall listening experience. So far I’m enjoying these great sounding IEMs. Super easy to drive so I have to be careful not to turn the volume up too high.

Cool. Does it display the artwork and track/album names?

Yes as you see in the picture above.

I recently received my Fiio M11+ and also would like to report it’s working pretty flawlessly. I did have one random reboot over the past 3 days, but otherwise I am super-happy with this device’s Roon integration.

I have it set up with ZeroTier to my Roon Core (Synology DS920+) so I can even see it as an endpoint when I’m remote. It’s pretty great. Now I can get proper DSP everywhere I am. I also have a Qudelix 5k. Which is fine in a pinch, but 1) it doesn’t drive big over-ears well and 2) it doesn’t work with my Focal Bathys because I use them in USB DAC mode usually. With the Fiio, I can properly EQ the Bathys and bypass Android re-sampling (I think). Good job

I always appreciate when someone shares something like this.

I do the same thing with ZeroTier. Open Android on the FiiO players is a big advantage.
