FLAC vs MQA Tagging, Roon vs Tidal App

Fooling around with Tidal via Roon, seeing that Roon reports some tracks as MQA, e.g., FLAC 48kHz 24 Bit, MQA 96kHz, where same track in Tidal application reports as FLAC, and appears to be coming across as 96/24.

Many other tracks in the Tidal application report as MQA, and show the same in Roon. Any idea?

The new hires flac streams have not been implemented into Roon yet. They only released api recently to 3rd parties so Roon only sees the older MQA streams which are 44.1/24 or 16 and 48/24 that will decode to what your MQA renderer supports. If you don’t have MQA capable dac than the highest you can get is 96/24 if you enable Roons MQA decoder.

In Tidal app it will just play what it believes is best version they have so this will be MQA for some and plain flac for others. This is how they have designed the new system.
