"Focus" on Recordings in MQA

a recurring issue when navigating various recordings of classical works to determine which are available in MQA.

In this instance, I’m starting at the Work level for Sibelius: Symphony No. 2 and we can see there are eleven recordings of this work available in MQA:

further Focusing on MQA however suggests there are seven:

but in reality, there are only five, as you can by the number listed under Conductors, and scrolling down:

why the discrepancy, and where did the other six recordings go, if they even exist?

I found this intriguing and wanted to figure it out but now I am confused.

I suppose you are looking at this composition?

Because it shows me no MQA, different numbers from Tidal and Qobuz, and more performers, conductors, and ensembles:

I guess I might not be of much help here

Perhaps more than one version of some albums?

If I open the Tidal desktop app and search for “sibelius symphony 2”, it shows the Karajan album twice. Both are tagged as MAX format.

could be, but I thought Roon curated data.

maybe not.

yes, that’s the composition. there may be some regional differences.

yet, if we focus on Pavo Jarvi, we see two recordings, which appear to be the same, both with the Cincinnati Symphony.

but we know there’s another:

with l’orchestra de Paris:

I tend to use Focus as I would “drill down”.

but perhaps it means something else?
