I have a focus bookmarked to show only unplayed albums, that is albums where all tracks have 0 plays. The thing is, I mainly like to listen to albums all the way through so unless I’ve listened to every track I still consider an album “unplayed”. I’ve been trying to find a focus configuration that shows me albums that have one or more tracks with 0 plays regardless of how many other tracks in the album have been played. Does anyone know a method to get this focus?
I guess you could create a “Partially Played” Tag and add it to albums that you have only listened to part way through - but it would obviously be a manual process.
I definitely thought of that but it would mean a lot of manual tag management.
I can’t think of a way that is not manual. Maybe post something in the feature request forum?
There are so many different use cases for Roon, and people use it in many and varied ways. I also use the +/- Played Focus feature not infrequently to help pick albums to listen to (as well as Date Added), however after you have played 1 track all the way through (IIRC) Roon thinks you’ve listened to the whole album, which you may not have done for whatever reason at the time. With 4700 albums to choose from, it’s easy to lose track - 850 in my library show up as not listened to since I started using Roon 5 years ago
You should make a feature request for partially played albums to be added to the focus filter.
Where do you find unplayed albums in focus? I don’t see that option
Select played in focus then click on the focus tag to reverse it, so you get unplayed. It goes from blue to red.
Here’s my workaround : I have created a ‘Least Played’ bookmark (albums that have been played in the past but sorted in ascending order) Any album that has only been partially played will appear at the top of this list, so I can find them back easily.
That is what I do. There are many focus Pre-Selects that Roon should do. Never Played. Partially Played. being two of the most common. Yes, I get that some focus’ may be doable by the user right now, but, focus can be an intimidating thing for some users and just having some pre-sets would make it easier, I think.
Also, there are still some (long standing) bugs in focus that should be addressed. The rolling 3 year limit for “Added in the last - All” being top o’ the list. The previous Focus handled this much better.
First step would be to open a track browser from your sidebar.
Then use focus to select all tracks that have zero plays.
Then select all these tracks and add a new tag to this selection.
Then open an album view for all your albums.
Then focus on all albums that have your recently created tag.
Then add a bookmark for this view.
This will only work for your current situation however. All albums that are newly added in the future will not be part of the bookmark. And you will have to manually delete the tags once albums are played.
EDIT: this bookmark will include all albums that haven’t even been played partially. To only show the albums that are played partially, you will have to add some extra steps:
Open a view of all albums and focus on all albums that have never been played and add an extra tag to these.
And later, exclude this tag from your album view with the tag that was added during the track view session.
Thanks everyone. The theme I’m gathering from the responses is that there is not currently an automatic/dynamic way to achieve this. I’ll work on filing a focus RFE for listing partially played albums.
