Fred Kaplan's best jazz of 2022

A very nice list but with no real surprises.

Apart from John Zorn and Keith Jarrett I don’t know anyone there so there’s a few new there for me to check out.

Well then I strongly suggest that you give Marta Sánchez, Samara Joy, Charles Lloyd, Tyshawn Sorey Trio and Cécile McLorin Salvant a listen. The Andrew Cyrille, William Parker, Enrico Rava; Mary Halvorson and Matthew Shipp Trio, while also very good, are a bit more challenging but equally rewarding.

I envy you since there’s lots of great music and musicians there for you to discover.

Indeed. Charles Lloyd has been making tremendous albums for as long as Keith Jarrett has (Jarrett was part of his 60’s Quartet), and Cécile McLorin Salvant has put out three tremendous albums in the past five years. Samara Joy is new to me.

The work by LLoyd and Michel Petrucciani in the 80’s is just great, particularly “A Night in Copenhagen”.

Thanks for posting. Samara Joy was a new discovery for me and I’m enjoying her album.
