Free to Air Classical Concerts

During the long days of the covid lockdown I came across the Netherlands Bach Society. Their objective is to perform all of JS Bach’s works. There are many engaging performances from this ensemble available on-line, often featuring well known guest soloists. I found the AV experience over my computer based desk-top set-up captivating and this may even determine the direction I take in the future. The audio quality is very good and this combined with the HD picture quality left a lasting impression. [bachvereniging.nl/en/]

Edit: you got me browsing the website again and I’m re-hooked! And with Easter coming what better time to schedule an evening watching a full work. Maybe St John Passion. I was fortunate enough to hear a ‘chamber’ performance of it at Snape Maltings, Benjamin Britten’s concert hall in East Anglia 3-4 years ago. Very very moving (and I’m not religious)

Two of my favourite Bach pieces from the NBS Website as an introduction to explore further.

Cantata BWV 140, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme [bachvereniging.nl/en/bwv/bwv-140/]

BWV 1050, ‘Brandenberg Concerto’ No. 5 [bachvereniging.nl/en/bwv/bwv-1050/]
