Describe the issue

My router security software, Netgear Orbi, reports blocking at least 20 suspicious connection threats a week against my Nucleus Core. I understand thats outside of your control but am wondering if this is common across the community and if you have any insights to what this is or anything additional I can do. Thanks David S.

Hi @David_Stichka,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. I have seen other user report similar things before. If there is a way to whitelist Roon requests in your security software that may help.

Are you suggesting these requests are normal operation and not rogue?

By the way, these connection attempts, from various IP addresses are all inbound to Roon.

Hi @David_Stichka,

It’s likely nothing to worry about, have you listed Roon as a proper exception in any of your antivirus or firewall based software? Here’s more information:

Thank you!

To be more clear, these are inbound connection requests from different IP addresses ranging all over the space.

I got similar messages from my Netgear security software (which is actually Bitdefender). I had an open port for Arc and when I eliminated that, I got no more messages.

The reality is every PC will always be hammered for to check for vulnerabilities. Unless you have placed your server in your LAN’s DMZ you don’t need to worry. But this really isn’t a support topic as it isn’t a Roon specific thing.

My personal suggestion is that if you are really concerned about this you can perform a WHOIS lookup on the source of these incoming requests. I will move this to the Roon Software Discussion category which is a more appropriate place for this conversation.
