The ModWright Instruments / Cambridge Audio CXN V2 Tube Modification is Dan Wright’s version of the already excellent Cambridge Audio CXN V2.
Modwright takes the CXN V2 and replaces the stock DAC power supply with one of their our own design. They replace the entire stock SS analog stage with their own all-tube based analog stage and its own power supply. The upgrade is fully balanced in to out, with both RCA and XLR outs. In addition, ModWright installs their own power transformer, high voltage choke and a pair of Swedish Lundahl gapped output transformers for the tube stage. Also they replace all op-amps with a fully balanced, transformer coupled, class A tube preamp circuit, based on their $10K Reference LS 300 preamp.
The upgraded Signal Path = DAC – analog filters – 6922 tube – Lundahl gapped output transformer – RCA/XLR connectors. No capacitors in the signal path! This all translates to a low noise floor, fantastic resolution, huge soundstage and the liquid and organic musicality that can only be produced by a Class A tube circuit.
Like any Cambridge Audio CXN V2, this unit will connect to a computer or server, USB thumb drive or external drive, Ethernet, Coaxial and TOSLINK wired connections. Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast built-in wireless connections. Roon Ready. (Requires a Roon subscription.) Spotify Connect, TIDAL and Qobuz built in. High-Quality Internet Radio Streaming. StreamMagic app for iOS and Android.
I had a pair of NOS 6922 tubes that I used with this unit from day one. I will ship the Modwright CXN with the original (2) new production JJ Electronic 6922 driver tubes (never used).
Driver tubes should last approximately 5000 hours+ with normal use.
The unit is in excellent condition. And will ship with all original packaging and accessories.
The CXN V2 was purchased in January 2022 and shipped directly to ModWright for their upgrade.
