Well I had only local collection and still had the issues with the metadata updates hogging resources. So not sure that’s entirely true.

I’m 100% streaming from Tidal and Qobuz with 5 1/2 years of no problems. I use some ethernet and some WIFI. It just all works. So does Roon ARC.

And you are in the U.S., which seems to present fewer streaming issues with Roon than some locations overseas…
As I tried to express, all of this is anecdotal, and there is nothing that I can share that is 100% true.
And looky here, folks. I use a NAS as my Roon server and absolutely love it. It seems that most people who use NASs have the same experience, and that ain’t quite as anecdotal…
BUT…all that said, none of us – not even I – should go around and say that a NAS is a magic bullet. There are too many things about individual networks, geographies, libraries and setups that can make any Roon installation go wrong.
Dutch guy here. I’m not using a NAS. I have a USB powered portable hard drive directly connected to my little NUC running Roon Rock. It runs problem free here.
Dual network setup. ISP router → my own ASUS router. The ASUS handles everything here. Most of the equipment I am using is connected through Ethernet. Either directly to the router or through a switch.
Both my Roon server and my CXN V2 streamer connect to the same switch. My WiiM Ultra and Bluesound play problem free through Wifi. The CXN did not. It’s wifi dongle isn’t that great. But ever since it is hooked up to Ethernet it has been a walk in the park.
The only issue I’ve had was getting ARC to run. But with a little help from the folks here I got it running. After setting up some forwarding rules. Now it has been running problem free for about 2 years or so.

What do you use to use the sonos speakers? Airplay?
I have a Marantz 50 in my main listening area and Sonos everywhere else. I can’t get Roon to work without dropping out all the time. If I send it only to the Marantz it is normally fine 80/20.
I have the server on my IMac and all of it is all on Wifi. I can’t even get Roon to send music 3 ft to my sonos amp w/o it dropping out all the time, yet in the same room I have a Bluesound node and that will work with Roon. Sonos works fine all through my house (except that the app now sucks). I am sorry I just feel Roon is too temperamental and it is driving me crazy. To recap (Airplay via Apple Music and Sonos all work in the house, Roon not so much.
No, don’t use AirPlay to Sonos speakers. Its discoverable by Roon and includes as a zone.
It’s not the new series of speakers, not sure if you have the newer models?
Roon and Sonos have been rock solid for me. Running Roon server on Synology NAS 920 - connected to Ethernet. Sonos speakers are on Wi-Fi.
In my living room I have Roon Ready Hegel 190 , connected to Ethernet.
Are you able to connect Roon server and Marantz to Ethernet? Even just for testing purposes (i.e, just run a long ugly cat 5 cable through the room)
First of the day against my set or reasons for failure – “Good Wi-Fi v Bad Wi-Fi implementations” I had exactly the same behaviour from my CXN V1
Case Proven Yet ? 
I do not own newer Sonos devices like the Move, Move 2 or an Era range speaker. I do not own a CA CXN or a Blusound device. So I cannot comment on specifics. Yes, an individual devices WiFi implementation does have an effect. Hence hardwiring being the preference.
Before I had a UniFi network, back when I had a TP-Link Archer C7 WiFi router my Sonos devices would constantly disconnect on WiFi. Streaming to multiple Apple TV/Fire TV sticks was hit and miss also. This all being in a typical 1930’s semi-detached Uk property with a full open plan living area.
This was before I discovered Roon. Changing to a mesh network with the Google nodes helped a bit, but wiring for backhaul solved any further issues. I then ran in Ethernet cables throughout the house and upgraded to UniFi.

The CXN is notorious. CA even gave me a prototype to try to resolve it.
My house is classic South African brick and plaster with a flat roof running ethernet was fun but worth it
Thanks for the information. I have been toying with the idea of having cat run through the house, maybe that is what I will do. I will try running a cable
from my Imac to the sonos amp and see if that resolves it and go from there. Thanks again
Not really because your initial statement was that you have been running your set up for a zillion years with no issues. What you didn’t mention is that you had to to do this, this, this and that BEFORE it ran smoothly. Although intentions may be good these types of responses are still doing the thing you claim it is not, “It can’t be Roon, it is your flawed system.” The problem statement never changes - I pay for Roon to do a thing and it does not. So, I get what you are saying and this reply is not a slam on anyone’s opinion but I feel the frustration as well with these types of responses to a problem.
An electric lawn mower is on sale at a hardware store. It has a notice board along side it. It gives guidance on its use. It mentions it comes with a 20 meter power cable. I decide to buy it. I get it home and unpack it and plug it in. I can’t finish mowing my lawn because the cable is too short.
Darn that manufacturer selling something that doesn’t do the job it’s meant to.
FWIW - today I submitted a support request because Arc is making my phone get too hot. Other apps similar don’t. The app still works, but has an undesirable effect.
I’ll happily wait for there response.
Might be worth looking at Audirvāna depending on what you use roon to do.
