I am currently running HQPlayer without a GPU (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU). For me, quietness of operation is an important consideration. Can anyone recommend a suitably powerful GPU (4070 and above) that runs quietly?..or even silently?!

For example ASUS Strix-series Nvidia cards are pretty quiet, when not under heavy loads these have fans stopped and then as load increases, the fan speed is gradually increased. Having such in a Fractal Design Define R-series case keeps it rather quiet.
Of course, if possible, one can locate HQPlayer server somewhere outside of listening space and just have a small passive cooled NAA within the listening space. This way it doesn’t matter much how quiet the HQPlayer server is.
Thanks Jussi, I will investigate. Most of the rest of the server is already ROG Strix anyway.
I have the server in an adjacent room, with a Holo RED by the stereo, but there is no door between the rooms. A small amount of noise will probably be fine.

You could also look at some of the deshrouding and/or fan control customizations that are being done to use quieter fans and be able to run less than 1krpm speeds.
4090 always max 1100rpm.
ASUS Strix series already has bunch of tweaks to make it quieter. Including huge heat sinks and quiet fans. And then ASUS has some Noctua-edition GPUs, but these are not the most powerful ones, but mid-level.
@jussi_laako I went with your suggestion of the ASUS (4070TI Super) and couldn’t be more pleased. I wanted to be able to achieve 48x512 with DAC correction and no restrictions on the modulators or the filters that I want to use. It does all of these things and any increased noise is almost imperceivable. It is completely acceptable where it is located and I won’t be needing to take a drill to the wall to place it in a separate room any time soon!
Many thanks for your advice!
Chris
