A really, really nice playlist that should be very enjoyable for people not that familiar with jazz. Filled with lots of young jazz artists and featuring a good helping of vocals and foot tapping rhythms.
While my personal tastes are much less mainstream, this playlist is very impressive. A really good find. Thanks for sharing!
11. Herlin Riley
Connection to Congo Square, New Direction (Mack Avenue, 2017)
Riley is the embodiment of the New Orleans jazz tradition, born and raised in one of the city’s musical families and serving as drummer for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis. This track honors the ancestors at the birthplace of jazz, Congo Square, where African rhythms and dances were preserved on Sundays in the 19th century.
This just one example of the first rate quality of this list. Riley is one of the best drummers on the planet and one of the best in a long line of great New Orleans drummers.
