Hi - I already own a pair of Devialet Phantom I speakers, but would like to add a B&O Beosound A5 in the other living area, and some Apple HomePod mini speakers in the bathrooms and a few other places. Just checking that I will be able to group these using Airplay before I buy. I would like to have background music playing throughout our new house. Thanks in advance!
You can group streamers using the same protocol. Roon Ready with Roon Ready, AirPlay with AirPlay, etc.
That’s what I thought, thank you. Up until now I have sent music to the Devialet speakers using RAAT and ideally I would to maintain this, but with the option of an Airplay group for all speakers in the house. I guess my follow on question is can I keep both options available in Roon?
Go to Settings > Audio. If a device advertises more than one protocol option to Roon, it will be listed more than once, and you can enable each protocol separately. Then they will appear as individual zones in the zone switcher, so you can choose the Devialet RAAT zone when playing standalone or the Devialet AirPlay zone when grouping with other Airplay zones.
Note that the group configuration can’t be saved, so if you have 5 speaker zones you have to select all of them every time when grouping.
Thank you!
Another nice thing about grouping is volume control.
By clicking on the speaker icon you can change the volume level for the whole group.
But open up the zone settings and you can change the volume for each group member seperately.
My new setup seems to be working great. In fact, I think I’ll add a couple more HomePods - they sound more than adequate for background music. I’m just trying to figure out how to play and pause Roon using the HomePod controls.
