I recently connected a Marshall Wolburn III speaker to the HDMI output of my Mac Mini running OS Catalina (10.15.7)… Roon recognizes the HDMI output, but no sound comes out of the portable speaker??? My source files are in AIFF Hi-Res format. Any ideas?
If I am not mistaken, Marshall Woburn III offers an HDMI(ARC), not a standard HDMI input. The former is meant to connect a compatible TV, so the TV´s remote control takes control of the Marshall.
My understanding would be that the Mac´s HDMI is not an HDMI(ARC).
Thanks a lot… Was not shure but I thought it was something like that (Aaarrrggghhh) !!! I choose this speaker because of this HDMI input but not for my TV… Just to connect Roon on my iMac and ear my Music Library in my desk with this speaker !!! I’ll test with a preamp earman ST-Amp bought for my Meze 109 Pro… and it sound really great !!! I think I stay with this config…
Both HDMI standards use the same socket, but they are vastly incompatible with each other. While a standard HDMI input is awaiting the audio and video signals from a computer, satellite receiver or blu-ray-player, an HDMI(ARC) or HDMI(eARC) is solely a possibility to make a TV and an HDMI(ARC)-equipped speaker a synchronized combination, being controlled by the TV and its remote control.
Thx a lot for this explication !!! A find a solution with my earman ST-Amp connected with RCA to the Woburn III and supporting a USB entry from the Mini MAC… It roon ready so i’ve got it on my roon audio source liste… It sound really great with planty of details… The DAC in the earman make the Job !!! The speaker sond great too…with really nice medium and sufficiently bass… great new systeme… Thx a lot to ron too…
