Senn HD800 and Chord Hugo 2 with 2Go
Would love the Hugo 2go combo but I can’t imagine it would sound better than the budget gear I already have.
Thats what I thought too - until I tried it for myself.
Do you think it would be an improvement on an SMSL SU-8 DAC and Massdrop THX AAA 789 Headphone amp?
Don’t know - haven’t tried those.
Only way to find out is to try them for yourself.
What was you using before the Hugo?
Schitt Lyre/Bifrost and Sennheiser HD 600
And before that a Bottlehead Crack that I built. That was amazing. But it gave up the ghost.
Had a MojoPoly for some time. Spent months trying to get it to work. Finally gave up. Will not head down this route again. Roon endpoints work much better for my network.
Expect to spend considerable time fooling around with your network settings and different APPs to get it work, if at all. My rec. is if you need to be able to move around, just get a nice DAP. These Chord wireless add-ons don’t make any sense to me.
These kinds of things are what we in the hobby call “poisonous” AKA Slippery Slope
Nice. What DAC do you use with the p-750u?
Ordered some balanced cables for my Meze 99 Classics and Rai Solo (which broke and getting replaced :() , Need to hear what the fuss is about balanced, No doubt the usual audiophoolery and realy makes no differnece, In reality it has no place in a home environment, we dont use super long cables, have a hostile rf environment, but hey in for a penny in for a pound.
Well balanced headphones is more about the amp end of the chain
Balanced just gives more volume imo. I would never be able to tell the difference between single ended and balanced in a blind test.
Thanks. Yes, the Head-Amp is really a great one. What ever you plug in sounds at its max capabilities.
I use a DC-37 as a DAC now. Therefore i used an AriesG2/VegaG2 Combo, but after one year of
unresolveable and frustrating clocking and clicking problems and 3 exchange devices i gave them back and took something solid. This one. The DAC(DC-37) goes into the Preamp and the Preamp feeds the Head Amp.
On the lowest deck is the power regenerator ps audio p10.
And my nucleus is feeding the dac via usb…
My DAP has balanced out so thats why I got them to try out. Still not sure what benefit a balanced amp will bring to home, it alll makes sense in the broadcast and music industries but for home use overkil and another thing we are sold for a problem that does not exist. Dont rememeber ever having anty hum when listeing via headphones.
I doubt I will but wanted to try it out. My phones are not hard to drive so the extra power is not really needed. I can see using balanced more of a drain on the battery than a gain anywhere else. But I am open to be being surprised.
Balanced headphones are very different from the balanced line level signals used typically for longer runs and pro gear.
Many in fact most all balanced headphone amps will be damaged if you use them with non balance wired headphones…the amps outputs don’t share a ground signal.
Why is balanced headphones different, its using the same principle as line level balanced no shared ground. You can have a balanced output without a truly balanced amp I guess which is what DAPS are. and yes oviously you cant mix and match on a true balanced amp. But I was questioning the need for balanced at all in a home hifi environment nothing more.
