Good job I’m just a dinosaur then.
Tubes I can live without especially power tubes for amps that run into hundred of dollars a piece!
Although I do have a pair of headphone amps, one tubed, one ss. Makes a nice diversion to mix em up.
Like Euphoria form my country, huh. Very similar. Fantastic piece of equipment btw. Felix Audio produced new version, Anniversary of Euforia (in polish), with many changes like: UP-OCC Neotech copper wiring (silver in standard version), new bigger transformer, ClarityCaps and new damn great feelings good look enclosure. Mmmm:
I have been on quite a journey with headphones over the years. I have had a couple of pairs of Shure iem’s and have the SE846 at the moment although I have a pair of 64 Audio A12t custom iem’s on the way in the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait. Will post photos when they come. I’ve upgraded to an Astell and Kern SP1000 dap and find Roon works very well streaming to it.
I had a pair of Sennheiser HD800S and the HDV820 amplifier. They sounded glorious but iem’s are more practical for me with working from home and the noises of family life in lockdown. So I have parted ways with these two. Hopefully the 64 Audio get close to the Sennheiser!
I’d like to hear your impressions on the custom fitting process, AND how they measure up comfort wise. I’m thinking about getting some custom IEMs. I also have a couple of pairs of Shures (Se535, Se420) and a set of CFA Vega.
Wish my AK SE200 could work withRoon, but AK software works well enough. I think AK would sell more players if they dropped Roon compatibility into the Futura tier.
Hi Robert @rrwwss52 , yes A&K would really benefit from expanding Roon compatibility to the wider range. I had an SE100 until recently and rather impatiently sold it on eBay and bought a second hand SP1000. I don’t think there is a significant difference in sound quality between the two.
I have had the Shure SE846 for just over a year. I had custom silicon sleeves made for them by Snugs (pro). The impressions process is super easy. They just check your ears are clean and then pump them full of filler. A couple of weeks later the sleeve came through the post. It improved the sound quality, particularly bass significantly and sound isolation was much improved. But the biggest thing for me was comfort. I can wear them all day while I am working, whereas universal iem’s just don’t work for me as well. Hopefully 64 Audio will be as comfortable!

Couple of pictures of my " analog corner".
Got to try and tidy up the headphones a bit, its the darn cables that always make it untidy… something to be said for wireless technology at times!
Now I know: Auditioning and experiencing headphones is key. From reading reviews I was pretty high on the Meze empyrean when I went to audition them. The Abyss I didn’t even have on my radar. After 5 min of listening to the Empyrean and the ZMF verite I was disappointed and knew I was not interested.
The sound signature of the Abyss is what I was looking for (without knowing it before). It takes time to know what you like in music reproduction and then it even takes more time to find the equipment that gives you that. Going to a dealer is the way to go.
Another thought: going back to what you had before shows you how great a particular set of headphones is. I got used to the sound of the Abyss pretty quickly. Only when I went back to my other headphones I experienced the stark difference and thought: wow this is a great pair of cans.
