A very modest headphone listening station as befits a man with a small budget!!!
I’ve tended to buy Sennheiser’s over the years and currently own the HD600 and the HD560S. The latter is incredibly good value.
I’ve just purchased the Hifiman Sundaras and I’m really impressed (as I mentioned on one of the music threads ). Oratory’s Harman PEQ settings work really well with these cans - I can really feel the sub bass.
My first ever headphones were Sennheiser hd414’s many decades ago, I also had a pair of the hd600’s not quite as many decades ago, hd600’s are great value for money. FYI any looking at buying headphones , Sennheiser are selling off the hd660s at a discount as they are discontinuing the line I think.
I am mostly electrostatic for home use now, although I have Sony and rha for travel, and an old pair of beyer for my desktop pc.
A low end Plug (sorry !!)
I have spent the last 5 weeks in a full plastic collar following neck surgery, I thought I would not be able to fit conventional headphones on so I bought a pair of Sony WF 1000 MX4 ear plugs (IEM ?) expecting anything to be better than nothing
I was so pleasantly surprised , running BT from either my iPad or Samsung phone the really are a revelation how good something so tiny can sound !!
3 Weeks to go !!
I’ve got a pair of those, Mike. Pretty good aren’t they?
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Good luck with your recovery Mike.
Hope you’re back on top of things soon
Using the Focal Bathys with the built in DAC. Sounds very good with an iPad. At home I use it with the RME ADI 2 plugged into the IEM port.
Bluetooth I use very rarely.
Ouch! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
What’s the max resolution you can get in usb with the onboarded DAC?
it is 24bit 192 kHz.
Nice, thank you
5 days and COUNTING until the collar comes off , not a moment too soon
Here’s the head-fi rig in my office. Focal Elear driven by a Meier Corda Headfive fed from a Cambridge DacMagic 100 (which stack perfectly) connected to a raspberry pi with RoPieee.
I’ve been a headphone enthusiast for a while now, but this setup has kept me happy for the past 5 years. Everything new since I picked up the Elears has been for portable use. Especially now that I have my D&D 8Cs in the living room, I don’t see myself upgrading anytime soon.
The past few years I’ve been going through quite a bit of headphones.
It took long enough, but I finally realized all earbuds (minus the custom Audiologist impressioned ones Empire Audio Valkyrie) are useless for me. They can’t stay in (just plain ole bad ear anatomy), have no seal so no base or noise cancelling.
I run with Koss Porta Pro’s which are THE BEST in terms of good sound and disposability.
I bought a pair of Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H8i’s for weight lifting days. Why did I not wear headphones when working out sooner??? On the ear is good, use a sweatband to keep them secure.
Have a pair of B & O H95’s for around the house and travel. Over the ear.
Audeze LCD-4 sit at the top of the hill on their thrown.
ARC is a game changer. Thanks, Roon.
Same here - most buds are problematic for me also. If they do stay in, they pinch something fierce so quite uncomfortable to wear.
In the end, I sprung for custom-molded Ultimate Ears UERM - they do stay in, aren’t all that uncomfortable and dampen outside noise quite, quite well, Plus, they sound great and are very easy to drive.
Nothing fancy, just as simple as I like it.
I love my Grados paired with the Mojo2 + Poly (even though I can’t say which one is better than the other) but from time to time I like to switch to my 660s.
