Come on! Transformer hum is what? Design feature?

Well, clearly a design choice - it’s not like it caught them by surprise (which would be a QC issue). Sure, I think it’s a rubbish choice, but they’re hardly the only manufacturer that makes the same one. Personally I’d like to see DC offset addressed in the amplifier if there’s some legitimate reason to leave the transformer ‘unwrapped’. I read, for example, that one of the Kinki Studio amps has a switch for this.

The thing is, I have plenty of sympathy for people complaining about this, as it’s not clear before purchase. It caught me out. Likewise Roon Readiness (not relevant for me). However, for everyone to pile on afterwards and criticise everything from the manufacturing facilities to the DAC seems odd to me. Surely people listened to it? Or, for people with a more objectivist bent, read the measurement-based reviews that were out there? Anyway, I’ll duck out now…I’m not sure that there’s much value in me dragging this out further!

Glad I found this thread, I know its old. Thanks to the op. I have been trying to find out where they were actually made for quite a while as I have been interested in one of their amps. I’m no longer interested. Its very shady to stamp “Oslo Norway” on the back but not “made in Oslo”. They knew what they were doing. If it was ACTUALLY manufactured in Oslo I can assure you it would be plastered all over the chassis, packaging, etc. So why not just put made in China on the chassis? Its deceptive and I can’t support deceptive companies.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about.

Same tactics as most of companies. Lots of UK companies plaster designed in Britain on lots but they are all built in China which is then in small print at the back.

Yea and I’m fine with that. I see alot of “made in usa with globally sourced components” or “designed and engineered in Great Britain, assembled in China” etc. At least they’re being transparent.

You should know Roon warned of banning me if I continued pointing this out.

All Apple stuff is “designed in California, built in China”, that isn’t really the problem. If you’re unhappy with the amp return it. I’m sure they won’t redesign it and give you a free one just because you’re unhappy. Sad but true. And if you don’t like transformer hum, you should probably go class D.

Hegel does not say, “Designed in Oslo or Norway, built in China”. They specifically hide the ‘built in China’ part.
I have no problems with Apple. They’re truthful. I have significant problems with Hegel, who is lying by their implication their amps are built in Oslo or Norway.

Marketing speak unfortunately has lots of leeway, companies should be more truthful.

It was us moderators who sent you the official warning because you were Axe-grinding. This is not permitted by the Roon Community Guidelines.

Dear Geoff,

[Moderated: Political comment removed.]

I believe Roon ought to engage with it rather than discourage it.

Can we leave “political concerns” at the door?
You should report law breaking if you feel that is happening, everything else is repetitive ranting.
