Hell freezes over, or how Folder Browsing came to Roon!

Thank you for that magnificent summary of all that made Rimmer’s alter ego ace

No smeg there

No don’t think so. I mean the ability to select multiple albums based on their common higher level folder. Let say if I import multiple albums, all in parent folder “from friend”, that I could tag them together as albums from friend.

Why do you have to tag them ? You can just move them to another folder - let’s say it’s called “From dear friend” . That is the advantage of folders browsing - you can create any folder you like under the parent folder .

Tags are a very different thing and they have very different uses. Although you could use tags to setup a folder-like browsing experience (yes it would be a lot of work), you cannot use folder view to do anything close to what tags can do.

Tagging is very useful, as I can use it to filter out albums I’m currently interested in. While a parent folder as such is completely useless. There is no way in Roon to filter and show only the albums let say from my friend.
I used to create extra storage folder for any such group of albums I wanted to selectively filter. But problem is that Roon gets really slow once you add 6-7 such storage folders on the same disk.

Folder view recently came to my rescue - I had an album with missing tracks and, on checking the folder, I found the tracks were indeed there. I was able to select all the tracks in the folder view and use the Edit > Group Tracks function to create a new album which replaced the old (incomplete) one. Nice unexpected benefit.

Hi Roon,
I was one of the guys who asked for folder browsing a while back and got hammered about that question.
I didn’t want to react immediately but I am very happy this feature is there and it gave me a new view on the files I have on my NAS.
Not sure if this is due to the new owner Harman, but if it is I am very happy. Initially I was very worried by the acquisition of Roon by Harman. Harman is Samsung, and I really don’t like Samsung. But hey if it brings this, maybe I should rethink my opinion about them.
Take care and thanks for a way over due fantastic feature.
Cheers,
Peter
