Help with roon bridge and Dirac setup

My current setup is a PC running Roon Server and Dirac.
The DAC is connected to the Roon Server.

I would like to try ARC, so I will need a dedicated Roon Server.

I just installed Roon Bridge on my laptop, but I can’t see it listed under audio devices in the Roon setup.

Currently, I can only see the Roon Server when I turn on my DAC. I’m using an iPad with Roon Remote.
Do I need to connect a DAC to my laptop for it to appear in the setup?

I also have another question: On my Roon Server, I have Dirac set as the output device, and Dirac has my DAC as its output device.
Can Roon Bridge be set up in a similar way?

No it cant. Make sure that youve allowed firewall acess yo raatserver and roonbridge, the pc is on the same subnet as the roonserver, and the pc is not a public network connection

ARC connect back to the same Roon core. No need another server.

Your laptop itself is also be an endpoint without connecting an additional DAC. Just make sure your laptop and core(server) are in the same subnet.

Yes. I installed roon bridge and Dirac on a PC. And it works in the way you described.

Not if it’s on a separate device it can’t. Only on local pc with Dirac virtual sound card as its output. If you have a bridge on another pc to that running Dirac or a an sbc such as raspberry pi over the network you can’t.

Bridge needs the DAC to be on for it to be seen by Roon server as an audio device.

If the laptop with bridge is running Dirac Live then you can take the Dirac virtual soundcard output on the it should show up. It may or may not work though some have had it working others not.

Also ensure that all Roons apps are allowed through the laptops firewall, as windows has a habit of blocking it.

If your laptop with both roon bridge and Dirac install and correctly connect to the same subnet as your server. Audio device will show like following pictures in your remote.

Without Dirac installed and DAC connected, at least “System Output” should be there.

After some fun with the windows firewall, I can now see all devices on the roon bridge laptop.

But I can’t enable any of them, why?

Try disabling firewall temporarily to see if it helps.

I have no idea why your devices cannot be enabled. My windows 11 setup shows up and works correctly without altering any firewall settings.

I have tried adding the raat server to the firewall. But you are right. I should disable the firewall if I could. It’s a work computer and I was using it to see if I could run roon bridge with Dirac.

I think I know now that it’s possible and I will look for a small computer for my roon server and use my exsiting roon server with the good usb card as a bridge.

Thanks
