Hello,

Hi Keith are you using AirPlay to the Formation speakers from Roon?
If so 16/44.1 is all you will get
The original models were Roon Ready, but this will have to be enabled in Settings ->Audio
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, no Roon Ready. Airplay2 is disabled on both units.
Hi Keith, Good to know that
What are the settings under the audio device?
Under Advanced settings, here are mine for my Mini-i Pro 3 I am currently listening too
Can you also send a screenshot of your signal path, like this
Keith according to this screenshot you are getting 24/96 output and not 16/44.
I was wondering if you started with 16/44 media then you would get 16/44 output
That all looks good to me, maybe I am not understanding your issue
But if you are playing Roon ready to the Formations then the DACs are not used
But now I can see your confusion.
What are the DACS receiving audio from?
So, the signal off the B&W would be 96 but the internal PS Audio would not process the digital signal, therefore would display the analog rate, if I understand you correctly?
I would have thought the PS Audio equipment would display the correct output regardless.
Maybe I need to explain it a different way (I am just a Roon end user like yourself and not representing Roon).
Unless you are receiving the signal on the Formation and sending it out to the PS Audio DAC, processing it and feeding it back in, then I don’t understand what the PS Audio DAC is doing in this setup at all.
The PS Audio DAC is a great device (or so I believe), I just can’t see what it is doing in the setup.
The Formation devices are Roon Ready which means that your Roon server is sending the music directly to them and it will process the music through its own streamer and DAC and play it back directly.
Now I could be missing a big picture item here, but normally that would be how it works.
How do you believe they are configured?
Not understanding, but Formation audio digital out to PS Audio digital in on both units via s/pdif cable.
Hi Keith maybe we are at a Cross talk point here and that is where the confusion is on both sides.
Many of the Formation speakers are Roon Ready so can get signal directly from Roon
But the Airlens is also a Roon Ready device that can receive music and send it to to a DAC and out to another active speaker like the Formation or an amplifier.
In the screenshots you sent it looks like you are sending your playback directly to the Formations for playback.
You should be able to test this but turning off the Airlens and PS Audio DACs and everything should continue to work.
Michael,
Sorry if I confused you but we are talking about two separate systems one for inside and one for outdoors. The inside Formation is backup as I use the Airlens inside as it’s better, but both display the same characteristics ie 44.1/16 off the Formations. But signal is correct off I2S off the Airlens.
I would think like the Airlens they should display what is being sent to them, is all.
Michael,
Maybe I’ll call PS Audio and ask them why, as it seems strange and inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks so much for taking the time in replying to me on this Father’s Day.
Enjoy, thanks again and take care.
Ok thanks that makes more sense and the Formation seem to be working perfectly
Can you make screenshots of the Airlens set-up and playback in that case, so we can see what the configuration is
@Michael_Harris: Just so you’re aware, the Formation Audio is a streamer, and not one of the Formation powered speakers.
If the OP has it digitally connected to his DAC via a coaxial cable then his DAC should read it as 96 kHz.
Maybe try an optical connection instead of coaxial?
Thank you, I was trying to understand the set-up.
But the Airlens is also a streamer, hence the confusion, but there is also the fact that Keith has two different systems
