I have been trying to manage myself the answer with llittle luck (no luck!) so I am opening this line for asking for support
I have just bought a a 2nd hand NAS Sylology 218+ which supports the Roon app, so I can unify into one “thing” both, music and app to play music.
Under my happy surprise, following the instructions all gone flawless and i am using the NAS with music and the app running since the very fisrt moment.
But…
challeges always reach me despite I try to tun faster
as my HD are non 24/7 ready (they spin at 7200 rpm, standard ones) I do turn off the NAS at 23:00 and starts back at 08:00… Extending HD life and saving some power
Is there any way to make Roon app starts when restart the NAS? I guess must be a script but as far as I have checked I need the path for the app and I do not know how to get it
This morning I have re-started the app but I would like to automatice this step.
Feel free to use the search function of the forum. If you use the app as you state, there should be no reason to do what you ask for as this should be the default (Roon Server should autostart with the NAS). Only thing I can recollect from memory is if the Roon Server database is located on an external USB storage device. IIRC you have to format the external USB storage device from your NAS – older threads have the details here about the FS to use etc. .
So if it is not that, then it seems likely to be a DSM (NAS OS) issue and you should use Synology support resources to help troubleshoot and solve the question from the title. Maybe someone here has an another idea too or ran into the same issue and can provide a solution, but there is no guarantee to that.
PS: Having a look at Roon Server logs may also help you troubleshooting.
I would recommend you leave your system on 24/7, as this is how NAS are designed to operate. If you are saying you did not buy NAS class drives (like Western Digital red), I suggest you reconsider. They are not expensive.
That said, @BlackJack is correct that all installed services should come back automatically upon each boot. To further reflect on what @BlackJack says, if you have more than one external USB drive, Synology DSM will not necessarily mount each drive in the same order each time, which could cause problems if one of those drives contains your Roon database.
The setting is accessed using the ‘Person’ icon located top right of the DSM home screen - select ‘Personal’ from the drop down and the window above will magically appear.
Don’t count on this to work (do anything after 10 minutes) as this functionality comes with a lot of caveats (prerequisites). And you can already find lots of lengthy and unresolved older threads where NAS users complain about their drives not going to sleep.
Don’t expect anything, be happy if it works for you.
