How do I make Roon better

Hi There

I love Roon but over the last few months I’ve considered cancelling it because of patchy unstable service.

I have a dedicated Roon server however I am running it off a Google Mesh system. I guess that’s the issue as I have tried everything else. My Sonos speakers work better from the app and my Hifi in the living room runs better off Tidal, both of those are also using the mesh network

So if I want a better experience with Roon I guess I will have to update/ change the main router in the house and create some sort of stronger network.

I am clueless on how to do this. Can someone please advise products to look at and alternatives to my current set up

To add. I have standard broadband router. Google mesh plugged into the router and Roon server connected to the mesh router

Thank you this is what my mesh says

First thing to try is to connect the Roon Server to the router by Ethernet, it can be stand alone ie not near your audio gear

That should help.

If you can you should connect all critical audio devices by Ethernet, wi fi is often not up to it

Hi Mike

My server is connected to the Mesh Router via Ethernet and the mesh router to the router via Ethernet

I have had an issue with streaming bigger files either when using Airplay or where my signal is weakest. I have 4 rooms with endpoints.

I solved this by using “Focus” to select only 44/16 files when streaming to those devices. Whatever audible gains from the high res streaming are lost on these lower end, but nice, devices.

Try selecting these files only and stream and see if it behaves more smoothly

No need to do that. You can get Roon to do that automatically for each endpoint individually. Muse can do it via Sample Rate Conversion (select Custom and downsample everything >44.1 to 44.1) and you can set the maximum sample rate for each endpoint in Device settings.
