Picking up on Steve’s post mentioning Verve, I was listening to Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson on the Verve label last night and was floored by just how good a 1957 recording could be.
Yes… Stunning 
I agree, the recordings from that era can sound stunning, even on CD.
The modern producers can learn a lot from this.
