How often does Roon re-index the database?

After ripping new music to the data base, it seems to take a while to show and be searchable in the data base. How often does Roon re-index?

Ripping to a folder watched by Roon is considered bad practice and may lead to incorrect identification of albums and split out tracks. For your actual question the answer is: It depends.

Please check settings (cogwheel) Storage. For most storage types Roon will use real-time watching (the OS is informing Roon about changes) and albums should become visible in Roon shortly after adding them (Roon first needs to process the files but that shouldn’t take too long). For network shares that are known to be often unreliable when it comes to real-time watching (if supported at all) there exists a configurable rescan interval (I think the default is 4 hours), check the 3-dots menu of the storage location “Edit”. On the same menu you can also find a “Force rescan” option to manually force a rescan (if you think there are issues or you want to avoid the waiting for the scheduled rescan).

Thanks so much for your reply, I’m only sorry I missed it for a couple of months! (Still figuring things out, being new). Is there a recommended method for adding new music to Roon as opposed to ripping to a Roon watched folder?

If your ripping CDs then any folder outside of Roons watched folder. When finished ripping copy them over. If it’s files purchased download locally and move them across when done.

Thank you! That is what I thought but had just wondered if there might be some other step needed that I might be missing. Thanks again.
