How to check native DSD?

Is there anyway that I can check if DSD is sent natively or over DoP to my DAC?

I don’t have the “DSD Playback Strategy” option in the device setup settings for my DAC but I do have the option to choose the DSD sample rate up to the sample rate my DAC is capable of.

Nucleus → Luxman NT-07 streamer → Luxman DA-07X DAC
I previously had the Luxman DA-06 and that was the same thing in the settings.

What you desciribe indicates it’s native DSD. If no DSD is supported you don’t get any DSD sample rates or strategy. If it supports DoP then you will see DSD Strategy. Native you get the options to choose in max rate.

Thank you very much for the info!

After I posted this I tested a bit with a Topping D10s connected to my Mac and there I indeed had the strategy options but no native DSD, only PCM, DoP and DCS.
I then checked the stream from Roon for the D10s and the Luxman and the Luxman seems to go straight through, which seemed native to me.

Thank you for confirming!

It should be displayed in your Signal Path. You could post a pic of that

It doesn’t say it’s native but it seems like it’s not DoP.

Yes, that is native. I believe a DoP stream gets the Enhanced color dot, but, I could be wrong.

It’s still bit-perfect though.

Sure, that wasn’t the question. The question was how to tell if something was native or DoP in the signal path.

It’s says it’s encapsulated as DoP in the signal path.

Yes it does as there is nothing else in the signal path other than file format. If it was DoP it would show DoP encapsulation.

Ok, thanks guys!

I was asking because some DACs claim to only go to their highest DSD bitrate in native format and a lower bitrate in DoP.

It’s lower because of the upper limit of the pcm capabilities of the dac. The max DSD over PCM for a dac that can only handle 768/24 pcm is DSD256.

Nice to know, thanks!
I didn’t know the two were related.

If you’re using Windows, you’ll need to download the driver for the Topping d10s to enable native DSD playback
