How to name / label discs in a multi-disc album?

Is there a way to name or label the individual discs of a multi-disc set? For ex.: An Anthology 1984-2002 box set where Disc 1 is “1984-1992” and Disc 2 is “1993-2002” and Disc 3 is “Live Tracks”. Roon has the discs split up nicely but they don’t have labels. Is there a way to add one?

Description of the issue

There is no way to do this, since there is no metadata tag for “disc name” that Roon would recognize in that way. The best option is to use multi-part composition grouping where you tag your files with WORK (disc title) and PART (track name), and set the metadata preference for multi-part composition grouping to prefer file. Then the track list will be grouped by disc title.

Just adding to @HeavyMetalDrummer’s suggestion, which is how I do this. When you make the changes to metadata tags and reimport, Roon doesn’t always see the changes. If this happens, delete the release from your library, clean up the library, and import again.

This is how it looks.
