How to pick NUC Kit?

I find myself drowning in NUC numbers. I’ve read the help files but I am having difficulty selecting.

Deleted Irrelevent info…jm
All observations will be appreciated. I appear to have overloaded.

Running the Asus NUC13 Pro myself, it makes a great ROCK device. i Chose the Core i3 1315U, same as in Roon Nucleus Titan and it runs very smoothly with a library of over 200K tracks.
Not audible from more than a metre away, and should you desire there are fanless chassi to be had.

(Getting my Akasa Maxwell AC Pro tomorrow)

Well, it depends on if you want one that Roon will officially support or one that is not officially supported. If you want one that is officially supported than the only the ones listed in the ROCK NUC FAQ qualify.

If not, then run it on any hardware you want. I really prefer full desktops myself. The extra power a desktop CPU has over the mobile ones used in NUCs can matter depending on your library and the DSP you want to do.

UPDATE:

I’ve found 2 options that are in the ROCK NUC FAQ @ Dihuni.com

Intel RNUC12WSHI30001 NUC 12 Pro Kit NUC12WSHi3 $366 and
Intel BNUC11TNHI30001 NUC 11 Pro NUC11TNHi3 for $348

I am presuming the NUC 12. Any opinions?

Does an i3 work for your database and DSP needs?

I’ve only used PCM with my Benchmark Media DAC and my database is < 6K

That seems like enough room to grow. The i7 is calling me, I’m just not sure it’s necessary for a ROCK streamer.

I am presuming the number of physical albums is irrelevent?

I Believe I’ve confused DSD and DSP. I don’t expect to use DSP.

No, the number of albums in your library whether local or streamed is entirely relevant.

While an i7 might be overkill, there are i5s out there to split the difference.

DSP includes, upsampling, volume leveling, applying any tone changes, convolution.

And DSD playback is especially relevant for processor requirements.

Remember it is not only what size the library is now, but, also what it might be in the next five years. This is the same for DSP. You should always think about some future proofing, unless you want to rebuild and update your server every couple of years.

I put together a NUC i5 Gen 7 CPU (2017) and it is still going with the right components. Crucial for the RAM and a Samsung Pro SSD for the OS have been key to keeping it functional all these years.

I now realize I need to be looking for Intel NUC Pro Kits and consider Core iX (thank you Daniel).

P. S. I ended up reading Daniels first post again. I then went out and bought a new Mac mini M2 from Apple for $399 net.
