I have a lot singles purchased from Beatport that I’m trying to group together but I can’t find an easy way to search for all the tracks. Every track has a file comment that says “Purchased at Beatport.com”.
How can I create a search to include beatport from the comments section?
If I can’t do that how can I change the tags outside of room to include something roon will find?
The problem with tags is that I have to go through every track individually and tag them which is not feasible. I need a way to find the tracks first and then I can bulk tag them.
Every file tagging software can make bulk edits, and the more sophisticated ones can apply an edit only to files that match some criteria like the existence of „Purchased at Beatport“ in the comment field.
But I can’t see how to use Roon to search for this. Every track already has the world beatport in the comments field but I don’t know how to tell Roon to search for this.
Roon only seems to search basic things like artist, album etc. How do I get it to search for other file tags?
I have tagging software but I don’t know what fields to use to ensure Roon can search for this.
In outline: you’d point the tagging software at successive albums already imported into Roon - unless you’re willing to re-import them, which is more complicated. Then let your tagging software itself find the tracks and make the changes.
If you (re-?)tag on files already imported you should also consider halting Roon’s server while you make changes to what would otherwise be ‘live’ data so as to avoid corruption.
Here’s an example. You can see under file comments it says purchased at Beatport so the data is in Roon. How do I search for this? Is this even possible? How can I group all my singles in Roon by using the term beatport?
What is happening is that Roon will display all the track metadata in File info, but it does not use all of that metadata. The “File Comment” metadata is an example of metadata that is not used by Roon in its database, so you can’t “search for it using Roon”.
What you need to do, as has been suggested, is to use a third-party editor to make a bulk edit to map the contents of the File Comment metadata field into a metadata entity that Roon does use. The ROONALBUMTAG and ROONTRACKTAG are perfect for this.
