HQ Player Setup with NAA

Hi all, I know many have had these issues because every setup is different. To start w/ my current setup…

Roon Rock on an Intel Nuc
Custom PC running HQ Player (its an older i9 w/ 32GB of memory)
Gustard R26 as DAC and NAA feeding a Buchardt i150 Pre and amp (via analog outs)
Streaming all music via Qobuz

*Gustard is fed via ethernet w/ LAN input

From what I understand the Gustard settings in Roon do not matter because I am outputting to HQ Player and that is what is feeding the Gustard R26. I’ve entered the IP of the PC running HQ player and it looks like HQ automatically detected the DAC…

When ever I select a track to play out of Roon I get a “Starting playback on your audio device. This may take a moment” but I never see the track actually start playing. I’ve enable “allow control from network” in HQ player.

Am I missing something in the HQ or Roon setup?

Perhaps you can detail the connections as typically Roon feeds HQP via Ethernet and then HQP via Ethernet to NAA then connected via USB to the DAC but you’ve got the DAC fed with Ethernet but the HQP screen shot shows USB to the Gustard…

This should probably be moved to the HQP section.

I just did. Note flagging a post as “as other issue” is the quickest way to notify the mods.

In Roon when you added the HQPlayer endpoint did you use the IP adress of the Gustard R26?

Maybe the settings are in conflict and for that reason playback cannot be started? Can you post your PCM tab settings?

It is also good idea to enable log file from Advanced tab. Restart HQPlayer to gather a full log. Once you have attempted to start playback from Roon, please check the log (from Tools menu you can find log viewer).

No I input the IP of the computer hosting HQPlayer. Should it be the Gustard IP?

The HQPlayer IP is correct one. And seems like Roon can connect based on the messages you get. So there is some reason HQPlayer refuses to play. Or the settings are such that it takes a very long time for HQPlayer to initialize DSP engine (depending on settings it can vary from seconds to hours).

Here are the PCM settings. I haven’t touched these yet so these would be default…

OK, no apparent reasons there. So next would be to check HQPlayer log for errors when you attempt playback. You can enable log file from the Advanced tab. If it wasn’t already enabled, please restart HQPlayer after changing the settings to gather a full log. (log viewer can be found from Tools menu)

Thanks so much Jussi. Out of town but will post the logs when I’m back in a couple days.

Hey Jussi, so I got a chance to enable the logs in HQPlayer. When I try a play a track in Roon with HQPlayer as the source I don’t see the HQPlayer Desktop application registering anything and it doesn’t show anything in the logs. Its like there’s not a connection between the Roon and HQPlayer app.

Then I would remove HQPlayer from Roon and add it again, please make sure you give it a static IP of HQPlayer computer.

Since you are on Windows, please also check that your network type is set to “Private”. And that firewall is not blocking Roon from accessing HQPlayer.

It was the network settings. My mistake. Thanks for walking me through that, Jussi. Will evaluate.
