HQPlayer Android and iOS client - HQPDcontrol

Just found out the answer from the developer of HQPDControl that it does not.

You need to use HQPlayer Client to use HQPlayer’s Qobuz support. For logistical reasons Client is shipped in HQPlayer Desktop installation package, but can be installed separately on Windows and macOS and naturally works the same with HQPlayer Embedded as well.

Thanks @jussi_laako, I know. I just wanted to use HQPDControl to complete the whole setup on the iOS (iPad, iPhone), but apparently it does not.

For third party control software, it is not up to me, it is up to respective developers. Same for example my wish that Roon one day would support HQPlayer auto-discovery so that people don’t need to manually enter HQPlayer’s IP address (which could change if they use DHCP).

HQPlayer Client works fine for example on Intel-based Microsoft Surface tablets running Windows 11. That’s what I use.

I just only need to enter the host name where HQPlayer Destop is running, that would work without knowing the IP address.

That only works if you have local network DNS or functional mDNS. Not something to take granted, or that you would know “hostname” of your Windows or Mac computer running HQPlayer Desktop.

HQPlayer has proper auto-discovery protocol used by HQPlayer Client and HQPDcontrol (on Android). But Roon has not implemented it.

There, Roon could just show all the HQPlayer instances it has found on the network, by name. No need to enter anything, not even the name.

Well, as one smaller item, Roon still doesn’t seem to support IPv6 either.

Check your Windows network type, it should be Private and not Public, and check in HQP that remote control is allowed

Thanks, @Stefano_Antonelli .

Network is private, UDP/TCP are both set to private too. Tried UDP/TCP in private + domain mode as well, unfortunately without any results. Fyi, I am running HQ Desktop 4 on Windows Server 2019. Audiophile Optimizer (AO) not in use.

Remote is also enabled in HQ .

Anything else to try out?

Thanks!

Problem solved.

After a system restart everything works fine. Thanks for support again

Hi-

A couple questions, may be for Ales (who I don’t know if is on this forum?). Maybe for @jussi_laako

  1. My iPad can change profiles fairly easily, and comes back quickly. But my iPhone often results in the spinning wait when I change profiles, and doesn’t return / doesn’t change the profile. They are set up identically - same hqpd IP address, both get the “connected” symbol quickly, both get to settings page. But iPad typically sees the correct settings (selected profile, filter, etc) on the settings page, while iPhone often (but not always) sees the [default] profile. Could it be something in my network settings on the iPhone?
  2. It would be very helpful if on the nowplaying screen if you could see the base profile mate that’s been selected, perhaps with a star or different color or something if it’s been modified (eg, if you picked “Office PCM” it would display that, but then when you changed the filter it might display “Office PCM* (modified)”. Right now I use profiles effectively as a zone picker, and it’d be nice to see the profile listed. (@jussi_laako i have the same comment for HQPDClient); perhaps there’s an architectural or user interface reason why you think this wouldn’t be good.

Thanks as always!

Since the newest version 5.12.2, HQPlayer 5 Client iOS immediately quits when I run it on my iPad. It shows the startup splash screen for a few seconds and then crashes.

This has not been the case with version 5.12.1 or any previous version I used.

My iPad is an 8th generation “standard” iPad running iPadOS 18.4.1.

Has anybody else seen this, too? I already tried reinstalling, but that didn’t help.

HQPDcontrol still works, but as I only use the clients to switch profiles, it’s a bit more cumbersome to get to the point where I can do what I want to. Not that bad, yes, but I’d still appreciate if HQPlayer Client worked again.

I’m having ur same issue with HQP Client’s latest update. Every time I try to launch it on my iPad it crashes before it opens. Have deleted it and does the same thing with the new download.

Did you figure out how to resolve the issue? Appreciate ur help.

Thanks,

Not yet solved … @jussi_laako

See the other thread Stefano posted. It seems Jussi can’t reproduce the issue and is looking into creating a TestFlight version of the app to gather data. Or maybe did so already, I don’t know. But I guess the problem will be solved—when depends on the nature of the problem, and possibly on the question if it’s for Jussi or for Apple to solve.

Thanks for the reply, and sorry to hear Client crashing issue on iPad has not yet been solved. Thought I read someone had resolved by re-booting all devices in the chain, but maybe that was with a PC. I have not fully gone thru that exercise, but will. I presume both you, Zottel and Stefano have?

Previous release was 5.11.0.1. I have not been making iOS releases of Client every time I make HQPlayer Desktop release…

Yes, only one person so far sent me email regarding Test Flight beta testing. Which would begin after Munich High-End. So far I think five people have reported issues, one person had the issue but it went away.

I’ve tested it on three iPads I have with two different iOS versions and didn’t encounter any issues. So I need more information or be able to reproduce the issue, in order to figure out what is going wrong.

It is likely some toolkit bug… Maybe related to the PDF booklet support, maybe something else…

What’s the difference between HQP Control and HQP Client?

Different apps from different vendors, with somewhat different feature set and UI.

Jussi, I’m aware of and have the HQPD Control in addition to the Client. But you offer a download on the website for HQP Control (no D). Is that the same HQPD Control?!
