I have tried, honest, but I cannot keep trying to “fix” issues with the Roon system. I do not have the technical knowledge, or indeed the desire to check this and that.
Like my car I just want it to go. Apple music simply plays, not nearly as well, but it plays. Like the car that always gets you where you want to go, it may not be a Ferrari, but after all at the end of the day it’s for getting to your destination.
I have just cancelled my renewal. It’s sad, because Roon is the best at what it does, when it actually does it.
I do see the problem here, Roon is a complex software which demands a sound (no pun) infrastructure around it. Any complications due to intermittent stability in the network WILL surface as issues, often with Roon.
However, with a simple and straight forward architecture my Roon system has been 98% stable and good sounding since autumn of 2015.
I’ve split your post out to Feedback where Roon’s product management team will see it.
I noticed this is your first post for over 5 years, and wondered why you did not seek help from Roon’s support team … they have the ability to diagnose the Roon logs and can advise what steps to take to improve reliability.
If you reconsider I highly recommend seeking out assistance from Roon’s technical support team.

I have empathy for this frustration and share the sentiment that functionality issues with Roon encourage serious reflection about switching, despite sound quality and music information/discovery benefits of the product. Like many people I expect, I too find it difficult to muddle through networking challenges without any IT training. This weekend is something of an exception but my free time is usually far too scarce to devote to investigating and trying to address computer/networking problems.
Just for balance… I’ve used Roon for a few years now, with both Linux and Nucleus One Roon servers, and various RAAT endpoints including Ropieee, Wiim, and HQP NAA, and also Android local, and Roon ARC via Tailscale, for Android Auto, and phone use.
In that time, I can’t think of a single Roon issue I’ve had, that was caused by networking. There have been issues, of course, e.g. Qobuz, Radio metadata, etc, but all were caused by issues outside my own network.
Thank you Calum and D-roc for your replies. Calum I admire your knowledge and confidence integrating Roon, and dealing competently with any technical issues. I’m sure I could learn too, but it’s not something I’m prepared to devote time to. I just want to switch on and listen, and the other components of my system allow me to do that. In the past month I retired my 20 year old Cyrus CD7, and replaced it with the new Cyrus CD player, it was working flawlessly within 10 minutes of the courier delivering it. The CD7 is to be overhauled by a friend who will hook it up to the 40 year old Cyrus 1 amp I gave him 10 years ago, and is still working 100% of the time. I will go back to the app on my streamer with Qobuz, +CDs and radio on the Ruark R5 in the kitchen. I guess my Roon Nucleus One at about 6 years old maybe reaching the end. I am not prepared to make the investment to replace it. The main thing is to enjoy the music, and for me Roon is not going to be part of that from now on.
