I can't use ROON after updating to 2.65

Hi.

My computer running the ROON server is running MacOS 11, and I don’t plan on updating to a newer version. Is there any way I can still use ROON on this computer? If ROON doesn’t support using the server on a computer running an operating system older than MacOS 12, I’ll have to cancel my subscription.

Insisting on using an old operating system is giving your safety/security life short shrift. MacOS 11 is riddled with security issues and that is a pretty big thing to consider.

Yes, you have two options:

  1. Install the pre-2.65 package, or
  2. Update macOS, either natively, if your hardware permits this, or by using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

I am in the exact same situation, running Roon on a 2012 mac mini that is not able to go past Catalina (MacOS 10). Ok, fine, that’s pretty old, but new minis have a 4-5 week lead time (thanks AI supplicants). How can I download the pre-2.65 package to hold me until my replacement arrives?

The link to the announcement of these requirements changes, which was buried in an email below several sales pitches and sent a mere 3 weeks before the effective date, says “We will make a pre-update Roon software packages [sic] available for users who need more time.” So it seems like it should be possible.

See the 2.65 release notes and the link there:

Unfortunately, the pre-2.65 version updates after restarting the computer and won’t run on my Mac.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can run this version on my computer?

Then, you should turn off automatic updates, especially when running a non-supported (by Apple, too) OS.

It works!

Thank you all so much for your help. I’m so happy; I can’t imagine listening to music for hours on end through the Naim app.

Haha, yeah indeed. Enjoy!
