All the CCR albums are in 192k
So, why were they originally available from Qobuz in 96k? Have they simply been up-sampled by Qobuz?
CCR albums are 96K inTidal MQA
So I’m going to let others decide is these are mistakes. But basically all the 192k Qobuz albums I found so far have multiple versions of MQA. I could add many more.
LOL, it’s just a batch job.
Life’s too short, pick the best for peace of mind, press play.
I expect they are options but I don’t know why there are two versions. A good question for MQA…
Pretty much. The label had multiple versions on disc, everything on disc gets pumped through the MQA hamburger maker in the sky.
Of course there is a batch process, in the same way everything else is created. You design with the purpose of leverage.
But what about all the claims of only selecting the best master? Seems there’s nothing really in place for this to happen. Just wishful thinking.
There are different versions but I don’t know the thinking behind this. That does not equate to MQA versions not being authentic.
Which sounds best to you?
The sellers will keep telling the buyers they have improved something I guess. I have 3 copies of never mind the bollocks on vinyl for goodness sake. As you all know that was by the audiophile band the sex pistols! I know, more fool me for buying them.
There is some music which does not really benefit from higher resolution… I started thinking about whether I an album really benefited from high def after getting a couple of Ramones albums.
I’ve now looked through dozens of 192k albums and in every case MQA has the same versions Qobuz has. The only time I don’t also find a 96k MQA version on there is when Qobuz doesn’t have it either. I’m going to say that the same albums sent to Qobuz are the same ones batched thru MQA.
You could say the same of classical, do I really want such high def to hear chairs scraping or people coughing. Horses for courses I guess. It’s a very large pond that we swim in.
Can you define “authentic” for us again?
Chris, you’re tying yourself in knots trying to defend and explain all this. Earlier in this thread you took the position that it that it made sense for Tidal to eliminate versions since the MQA version was the best and by reducing choice it would eliminate consumer confusion. Now you’re saying it’s fine if you have you multiple versions of MQA releases – that all are from the master and are “authentic” with the implication that all of them are just as good - just listen to the one you like best. So much for eliminating customer confusion.
At the end of the day, IMHO, this is all about money, which is the thing labels care most about. There is no doubt warner and universal have an ownership stake in MQA and most likely also share in licensing revenue – this is the only way to get labels to take on a new initiative and the way they work with everything. Given this, the labels participating now make money on music sales, music streaming, MQA licensing and if/when MQA (the company) goes public or is sold. With non-MQA releases, they only make money on music sales or streaming. It is in their best interest to pump out as much content as they can in MQA format and that is what they are doing. And it’s in their best interest to drive consumer to choose the MQA version or only offer that as the only option if they can get away with it.
And I’ll reiterate what I’ve said before, I have nothing against MQA per se as long as it doesn’t take away choice. Like any format, there can be good MQA releases and bad ones. But the fact they are pumping out multiple releases of MQA for the same album just shows that this isn’t a careful process to ensure that you only have the best possible release that represents “what the artist intended.”
So this is something I learned from listening to the Chord Mscaler and hires achieves similar results. So even with the Ramones, when playing the cd version you hear a flatter soundstage and instruments all fight for your attention. But with hires you get more depth and better layering. Believe it has to do with better timing. It’s not really about about frequency range since we hear with a limited range that cd version already covers.
Anyway, thanks to that post I’m enjoying some Ramones
